BJ3 has been with Northern Trust (Chicago) 23 years with 25 years experiences in Investment Management Advisor.

She spoke with the family on what Northern Trust has to offer, as well as the difference between NTS & other banking insitituations.

NTS DOES NOT DEAL WITH DERIVATIVES...they are considered to be a very conservative business!

Although NTS does not draft Trust Documents, they have a legal department that will review your Trust, therefore she recommends getting a State Attorney to write your Trust Document! Please keep in mind not all attorneys knows how to write a trust!

$2mil to become a NTS client

There are 3 options to opening an account (keep in mind, NTS will do a very hard background credit check when opening a regular account) You will received a package via Fedex, and can expect a phone call from BJ3 how to fill out paperwork

(1) Brokage Account (no credit check) 90 days to fund

(2) Investment Management Account (Trust side of Bank- no immediate funding needed)

(3) Trust Title account ( for those who already have a Trust set-up)

After RV...You can let funds sit awhile, until you are ready to move funds or start investing

The Author ~ How do you kmow how to protect yourself from the Bernie Maddoff's in the world...what are the red flags to look for?

*Choose an organization/insitution that has a sound history, and been around for a long time

*Don't rush into any decisions; Don't let anyone push you; Do your homework

*Ask questions & more questions until you have a clear understanding about your investment

*Know your level of risk

*Pray...Pray...Pray; ask yourself do you feel comfortable with this person?

*Always trust your instinct!

Keeping It Real ~ Choosing a Trustee, what are some of the charteritics we should consider?

Choosing a Trustee is a personal choice, however base on BJ3 experiences

*You are the Trustee - assign a Successor...in the event you become incapacitated or become ill, your instructions according to your trust will still be fulfilled

*Children/Family Member Trustee - sometimes this can create disharmony within the family, make sure your children knows the challenges...since they will be making decision on your behalf

*Corporate Trustee - NTS will admister the trust exactly as instructed

Keep in mind should you appoint a Corporate Trustee, and decided you want to change the trustee, there may be court cost; legal fees; attorney fees involved, also on a Irrevokeable Trust a Corporatee Trustee have to be willing to resign or give back to you, they have the right to say NO, because they want to keep recieving their commission!

RV Hunter ~ commented you can appoint a Protector, which will eliminate going to the court, it only require filling out paper work
